About the book

I wrote this book because I raised a child with an undiagnosed sleep disorder, and if it happened to me, a pediatrician, I assure you it is happening to many, many other parents. I was told to let him "cry it out" and given lots of advice that never worked. When he went from sleepless infant to difficult, hyperactive toddler, I was told I needed to discipline him. When he developed problems and flunked kindergarten, not once, but twice, I started working parttime and sending him to a psychologist, all in the hopes that if I was a better mother, then he would be a better child, but it didn't work. No matter how many times I swore I'd do better, things just got worse.

At 6, my son started allergy shots for his "little runny nose," something I viewed as a minor problem next tot the others. Lo and behold, within a few months he was sleeping and behaving like a new child.

The shots finally cleared up his nose and allowed him to breathe normally. Once he could do that, he slept better and behaved better during the day.  He also was able to concentrate at school and soon his teachers were telling me he was one of their best pupils.

My son's remarkable improvement caused me to see that he was suffering from insomnia which was a symptom of his sleep-related breathing disorder, the most common type of sleep disorder. Because he didn't snore and his breathing problem was very mild, and because his pediatrician and I hadn't been trained to recognize children with his problem, he went undiagnosed and untreated for years, making family life extremely difficult.

It's estimated that 98% of sleep disorders go unrecognized and untreated. Everyday, millions of parents are told to use "crying it out" or other behavioral treatments that won''t work on sick children suffering from insomnia, and that's because physicians are too poorly trained to properly diagnose and treat sleep disorders.

If you are at your wit's end and have a child who suffers from bedtime or night waking problems, please consider buying my book. It's priced reasonably and it contains all the information you need to determine if your child is suffering like my own did. It also outlines some home remedies that I find are invaluable in diagnosing and treating these problems.

If you are unable to afford the book, just email me and tell me why and I will forward a copy to you. I feel that strongly about helping these children.

Please buy the book for yourself or someone you love. Sleeping well is a prerequisite for normal growth and development in children. Sleep problems should never be ignored, and early treatment is essential for children.
